Mid-20th Century Provençal Salt Box in Blonde Walnut - 17"

A delightful mid-20th century Provençal salt box crafted from blonde walnut with a soft, honeyed tone that reflects the natural warmth and light of the wood. The front combines C-scrolls, leafy flourishes, and a central lattice motif, while the shaped crest and cabriole-style legs reflect the same flowing curves that define Provençal design.  A hinged lift-top opens to reveal the main compartment, originally used for storing coarse salt.  Below, a small drawer provides additional space, often used for spices or finely ground salt.

In very good condition, this example was designed to stand rather than hang. While some salt boxes were pierced for wall mounting, this one was intended to rest on a shelf or countertop. It now makes a charming accent in a kitchen, dining area, or entryway, perfect for holding tea bags or simply admired for its graceful silhouette and the inviting glow of its walnut grain.
